Benefits of Green Tea Extract

Green tea is always synonymous with healthy beverages because it’s loaded with antioxidants and packs a punch with multiple health benefits. It has been used in medicine for thousands of years, originating in China, where it was used for a variety of uses including fever and lowering blood pressure.

1. Powerful Antioxidant

According to the Department of Food Science, The Pennsylvania State University, “Consumption of green tea (Camellia sinensis) may provide protection against chronic diseases, including cancer. Green tea polyphenols are believed to be responsible for this cancer-preventive effect, and the antioxidant activity of the green tea polyphenols has been implicated as a potential mechanism. This hypothesis has been difficult to study in vivo due to the metabolism of these compounds and poor understanding of the redox environment in vivo. Green tea polyphenols can be direct antioxidants by scavenging reactive oxygen species or chelating transition metals as has been demonstrated in vitro. Alternatively, they may act indirectly by up-regulating phase II antioxidant enzymes. Evidence of this latter effect has been observed in vivo, yet more work is required to determine under which conditions these mechanisms occur. Green tea polyphenols can also be potent pro-oxidants, both in vitro and in vivo, leading to the formation of hydrogen peroxide, the hydroxyl radical, and superoxide anion. The potential role of these pro-oxidant effects in the cancer-preventive activity of green tea is not well understood. The evidence for not only the antioxidant but also pro-oxidant, properties of green tea is discussed in the present review.”

When you sift through the scientific verbiage, green tea is proven to provide some pretty powerful benefits. Studies have shown promising results when used as a treatment for Alzzheimers, Parkinsons, and even cancer.

2. Weight Loss

Green tea contains catechins as well as caffeine, which increases metabolism and the number of calories burned within the day. The polyphenol found in green tea intensifies fat oxidation and the rate your body turns food into calories. Green tea is also linked to appetite suppression. Several studies have shown that participants that drank green tea regularly burned 17% more fat during exercise than those who did not. Most fat burners on the market contain caffeine or green tea extract because of its powerful weight loss properties.

3. Diabetes

Green tea helps reduce blood sugar levels and reduces insulin sensitivity. The flavonoids in green tea, including epigallocatechin gallate, have been shown to decrease the liver’s glucose production. This means that your body regulates blood sugar more effectively, keeping your glucose levels within a healthy range.

4. Promotes Heart Health

Studies have shown the ability to protect the heart by reducing total cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglycerides, which are the fats in your blood.

5. Healthy Teeth

Green tea contains fluoride, the mineral that is added to the water supply to support stronger dental health. Small increases in the amount of fluoride can prevent bacteria from attacking teeth

6. Depression

Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in green tea and is linked to providing relaxing and tranquilizing effects.

7. Cognitive Function

Green tea can increase activity in the area responsible for memory retention in the brain. With increased blood flow, more healthy blood vessels can reach the brain. It helps block the formation of plaques linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

These are just some of the many benefits you can start getting from green tea today. You will need to drink 2-3 cups of green tea per day to get the full benefits of green tea. An easy way to get a full efficacious dose of green tea to maximize health benefits is to take a supplement with a concentrated dose of green tea extract.

My favorite supplement to take for a full dose of green tea and maximize natural fat burning processes, is Inno Shred. I lost 11 pounds and 4.2% body fat after taking Inno Shred consistently for 30 days. View my full review of Inno Shred here (Link to Inno Shred Review).
